There's quite a bit going on at CTEN and I figured I should update everybody.
First of all you probably noticed server crashes going a little crazy and after looking more into the problem, it turned out to be www.GamersGallery.com
. So we updated it's backend code, and it now has a bunch more features. I'd check it out if I were you.
We're going to watch it over the next little while and tweak it and turn on and off features as we get it to our liking, while keeping the server crashes from happening. The site still seems to load up image pages a little slower than we'd like, but hopefully that is something that can be taken care of.
This new backend of GG should take a lot less resources and help keep the server up and running, but if other code on other sites need to be replaced, then it will probably happen.
Somethings are broken over at GG until we get everything sorted out, but to help keep the server up and running, while still allowing visitors to GG seemed like the best option for now.
Secondly, a backend code replacement is going to happen in the next little while for www.GamesForWork.com
I'm not really going to talk about it until it's launched, but G4W is doing good and helping us make the money needed to push it and our other sites.
Lastly, we're considering updating the LeetForum backend for a quicker site, and to help us move it forward a little better.
We have a bunch of plans that are finally going to start to see the light of day. We've been out for a while without updating code, but some real interesting things are going to start to pop up. We have plans within the next few months to go a head and get a 3rd CTEN server to help host some sites that aren't too bandwidth intensive, but may be processor intensive.
Things are finally starting to come together.
Hope you like the direction that www.gamersgallery.com/gallery/
has gone with a few features. We may give it a new coat of paint, once the new code starts to settle down.
One problem that has slowed down a bunch of plans that we previously had, is these constant server crashes. We really wanted to fit more sites onto this 1st CTEN server, but it looks less and less like that's going to happen. While the 3rd will be able to handle smaller "test phase" sites that are more text based and not using terrabytes of bandwidth, it's a step that's going to keep things moving along. Hopefully if all of this goes well, a 4th server can happen to manage more larger and expensive sites... not to mention the multi-servers that www.gamesforwork.com
could start to need.
Overall, a few glitches have only slowed us down, but hopefully as things become clearer (money), we can start to speed some site updates along as mentioned, as well as some new services that might grab your attention.
Anywho, that covers things for a while. The next update, *should* be when Games For Work 2.0 has launched.
