Well the server move is done. It took forever as we had major DNS issues and getting our host to solve them.
Any site of ours that you access should be on a new server at a new host. We have upgraded and are now running 3 servers with sites separated between them to keep the load decent. Games For Work is on it's own server though.
I may have already mentioned this though.
In an update things are starting to smooth over and get back to where they were. I'm still thinking of what to do about every site we have other than GamesForWork. G4W is showing great promise and funding the rest, but the rest of our sites are not nearly as popular or active as G4W. We will be working to solve this in the coming months hopefully.
We have one medium sized project that I'm working on. We're trying to finally get a newsletter put together that people can subscribe to.
What we really want is one newsletter, but upon subscription you have check boxes you click that determines what will be contained in your email.
Basically it would contain the latest happenings, postings, and perhaps the occasional announcement for the site. If CTEN had a newsletter that was (most likely) weekly, would you subscribe? Be honest though, we don't mind if you wouldn't newsletters aren't for everyone.
We also are curious if people would like to be updated in the forum about new content on CTEN. Not a link to every single one, but perhaps a thread saying the site had been updated and if there were something of note that was something good to report on. An especially cool flash game, cooler than regular game wallpapers, etc. Is that something you would be interested in seeing appear in the forums? If we did do something like this we would likely use this announcement forum. Please remember that this will take time to do every time one of our sites are updated so it will be taking time away from other projects we could be working on. I'm happy to do it, if it's going to be used.
Anyway, I'm hoping that we can keep people more up to date in 2008 on new content as it appears as we post a lot of things that are cool, but nobody ever knows about them.
A few more minor details and finishes up on existing sites as I dive head first into what will be happening for the new version of G4W. I know many could care less about flash games and what we do with that entire site, but it's helping fund all of our other projects so the more money and visitors we are able to pull from that site, it will help us afford more servers for the many other projects we already have domains for.
For those that didn't catch the previous announcement, we launched our new site www.DisposableInbox.com
. It's a temporary email service that provides a quick way to register at other sites without sharing your real email address.
Please comment about the ideas shared in here. I know we've made a lot of promises and a lot of stuff I was hoping would be done by now, but things are still progressing in a good way, just slower than we had hoped. We are starting to move into the area of needing programmers to help us customize the scripts more to our liking and to make our services more appealing.
I hope this has helped update you on some plans that are getting close and what the situation has been for the last few weeks on our sites if you were wondering.
And for those that were curious, our 3 new servers each have 9 terabytes of bandwidth, which will begin to be reflected in tweaks on some of our sites to help use that.
